We love a good bit of fashion slang but if you’re confusing your jeggings with your treggings, and even your best friends are shoulder surfing you, read on to find out all you need to know from Tricia Harris, the queen of fashion lingo and author of Fashionese.com
Why did you set up your blog?
Fashionese has been a bit of an obsession of mine for a few years now. As a fashion journalist, I was living and breathing planet fashion so it never really occurred to me that a lot of fashion speak might be lost on “civilians”. A series of misunderstandings about seeing nudes on a catwalk (the colour palette rather than naked models) really opened my eyes to this and I thought that compiling a guide to Fashionese would be both interesting and fun.
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been an avid follower of fashion blogs for years, but Let’s Speak Fashionese (www.speakfashionese.com) is my first venture into blogging myself – the site’s been up and running for about few months now.
What is your background?
I’ve been working as a fashion journalist for the last five years. I’ve been very fortunate to have written for a variety of different publications, from huge global fashion titles like Vogue to small, niche magazines in the UK, US, Australia, France and Italy.
What’s your favourite Fashionese word?
I love the idea of a Cinderella moment – when you put something on that makes you feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. I have a favourite pair of jeans that give me that Cinderella moment every time I put them on.
