Giles Deacon’s return to London marked an exciting moment on the fashion calendar, and we were there to see exactly what was behind his first London collection in two years. Combining the high octane glam of Studio 54, with a carefree dash of ’90s era ravers it was a pure party from start to finish. We spent the day chatting to the models and celebs, and checking out the hard graft behind the spectacular hair & makeup, so take a look!

9am
Hop aboard the Eurostar at King’s cross, stocked with mags and smoothies. Getting into the French spirit with a pain au chocolat, ooh la la!

10am
Spot our first fashionista on the train, we look around and they’re outnumbering the businessmen!

Midday
Arrive at Gare du Nord, and hail a taxi to the New Look store in Les Halles to pick up our tickets.

1pm
Get to Les Beaux Arts, the art school where the shows are held, we’re lost! Wander around the corridor with our bags and find the Giles room eventually. Things are quiet as everybody starts to set up so Paula and I head to a nearby café for a quick lunch.

2pm
The clothes are beginning to arrive, and we start taking pictures, pictures and more pictures! The heads of hair and make up demonstrate the looks for the show, with their teams taking notes and in one case videoing the demo on his iPhone!

3pm
Meet Kate from the Giles team who helps us get wifi, and we start adding more twitpics of the proceedings. Meet Giles. Eek! He is lovely and has a proper handshake, always a marker of a good person. Sophy Robson, nail technician extraordinaire introduces herself and we have a little natter, we already follow her on Twitter so it’s great to meet her in the flesh.

4pm
The room is really starting to fill up as models arrive and the noise and activity levels suddenly go up. The Giles team are handed white t-shirts to wear, can we get one?! It seems that one out of every two models is famous, Coco Rocha, Natasha Poly, Angela Lindvall… And yes, they are as stunning in real life!

5pm
Hair is teased and backcombed into a giant bouffant, and once the make up is done (shimmering gold nude tones) the models do the run through in their clothes and Giles heels. Coco mugs for the cameras, what a trouper! Chris Moore catwalk photographer for the last 40 years, turns up and we have a chat, he tells me to check out his blog which is only 2 weeks old!

Stylist Katie Grand is here, looking fabulous in a fringed dress, she tells us she has to shoot over to Louis Vuitton later, to help Marc Jacobs… Ahh the life of a fashionista!

6pm
Anders from the Giles team briefs the dressers on how to slip the clothes on the models. We spot some fantastic ‘gonk’ bags all fur and googly eyes, and is that a Gremlin bag?! People start arriving and take their seats in wait for the show to start. We spot Taylor Tomasi Hill from US Marie Claire and Pixie Geldof who both sweetly accept to have their picture taken.

7pm
The show begins! The room is packed and as the music blares out the models start to strut. If it’s possible, the clothes look even better under the bright lights, with flashbulbs popping. Backstage some of the models have two looks so they quickly get changed and one model has 10 people around her to remove an intricate metal headdress! Kristen Scott Thomas pops in backstage to congratulate Giles on a job well done, she looks gorge in the flesh.

The activity doesn’t stop and all of Giles’ helpers start to pack up and the models get changed back into their ordinary clothes. There are people from Dazed and Confused, Sunday Times Style and more all queuing up to interview the designer, and then it’s our turn!

8pm
Hop in a taxi back to Gare du Nord to catch the last Eurostar back to London, and most of the Giles team will also be on this train. Stop off at the supermarket to buy cheese and then have a small but well-deserved glass of wine in a cool café.

9pm
Board the Eurostar, and have a look at all the pictures from the day with some snacks and (another) glass of wine. Tiredness overcomes and we have a little snooze.

11pm
Home at last! It’s been a loo-ong but unforgettable day, can’t wait to do it again!
