Hayley, our roving street styler and New Look designer went to check out the stylish folk at Offset festival last Sunday…

“Although the weather wasn’t great for the end of summer the fashion was! Grey and overcast the fashion forecast was strictly Autumn/Winter out with the old, in with the new! With some great bands playing we opted for the relative calm of the house tent whilst everyone else surrounded the main stage. I was pleased to see they also had a tent of vintage for sale, where we got a few nice pieces. Nothing like shopping as you rock!”

“Some of the big trends we spotted coming through at the festival were fringing, and rompers got an autumn makeover in denim. Jacket-wise it was all about soft, slouchy bombers and retro varsity jackets.”

“The teddy girl look (bottom) is going strong, keep seeing the deep sole/ brothel creepers coming through. I love the camel boyfriend jacket (middle row, right), worn with a velvet skirt and shirt, perfection! I’m still loving the military parka, and the mix of fur and suede top right is gorgeous.”

V Festival hit Hylands Park and Weston park last weekend, with a slew of celebs and popstars to bring a bit of glam to the UK’s festival circuit. Our festival spies hit the fields to check out what was going down in in the moshpit as well as in the VIP area!

We were fashionably late to Weston Park for our Weekend at V Festival, arriving on the Saturday. We decided to break the mould and journey all the way from London to Staffordshire to see how our northern counterparts were doing! Piled with way too many bags for a one night stay, we quickly rounded up some (kind of) willing helpers to assist us on our trip to the campsite.

Finally a festival that we can wear our wellies too! The weather was actually not too bad… but we so excited to put on our wellies…

As far as trends go V-festival we spotted the every popular flower garlands, high waisted denim shorts (and unfortunately too much cheek a lot of the time!) playsuits, trilby hats, knee high socks, band tees and head scarves.

We were ultra impressed by how friendly everyone was! Maybe we are too used to the London Fashion crowd…

V Festival has a perfect mix of music genres, we saw and LOVED Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, Kasabian, Pixie Lott, Calvin Harris AND David Guetta. Quote of the weekend was from David Guetta: “You are at the best party in the world right now!” Yes. We. Were!

We’re all big Britain’s Next Top Model fans at New Look HQ so when they asked us if they could come to our Oxford Street store to film of course we said yes! We pitted the models against each other in a Style Challenge, with their pick of New Look product.

The models had to come up with three outfits, one for castings, one for a night out and a casual outfit and with Charlotte Carey, Senior Trend Designer at New Look, doing the judging they definitely had a task on their hands! Watch the vid to find out who won and pictures after the jump..

Assistant Trend Designer Hayley gives us the lowdown from Vintage at Goodwood:
Last weekend saw the first ever music and fashion combined festival called Vintage at Goodwood. It was massively popular and had all sorts of interesting people there. People came dressed to impress from all eras. It was done so well, the atmosphere was amazing and there were loads to do for the families.

Music and fashion come hand in hand so once you finished the vintage shops people moved on to the stages, which really came into its own in the evening. Here are some photos or my favourite looks from the weekend.

Hayley also let us in on some of the trends she picked up, pay attention as we’ll all be wearing them in a few months!

Throw on cover ups (longer line) are really bubbling under, think stylish silk dressing gowns and you’re there! 50’s style scenic printed skirts and dresses are also making a comeback, this ties in with the retro mood in the air at the moment.

The 70’s sleeved maxi is how we’ll be doing longer lengths this winter, as well as the new slimline midi length skirts and dresses, expect them to be blowing up inn a few months time! Baseball and varsity jackets are a more casual way to do retro, team with cute skirts and saddle shoes for an all-American look.

Elle’s Shopgirl to Stylist competition is in its final judging stages, so we thought we’d bring one of the lucky contenders who made it through. Rebecca Catlow is an 18 year old student who works at our Burnley store.

Where does your interest in fashion come from?
Growing up I found myself being surrounded by a very fashion-orientated group of people and over time my interest for the industry grew and grew. I’ve wanted to be a stylist for as long as I can remember, working at New Look has definitely helped me develop my skills as a fashion promoter.

Who is your favourite fashion designer?

I love large mainstream names as much as the less discovered ones, but my favourite fashion designer is Vivienne Westwood. Westwood uses her designs to suggest the idea that fashion is a lot less about clothes and a lot more about art, expression, politics and the significance of having a raw passion for the industry. Westwood is not just an exceptional designer but she pushes the boundaries of conformity, she is bold, daring and exceptionally creative.
“When it comes to fashion no one person should look the same, you should be walked past in the street and people should remember you because of your clothes.”

The Mercury Music prize is upon us again with a mix of best-selling, avant-garde and downright kooky music. We’ve had a chance to pore over the shortlist and we spotted a few artists who made us swoon an sway over the last year.

If you haven’t heard Mumford & Sons’ debut single ‘Little Lion Man’ then you must have been hiding in a hole somewhere! This has been the hit song of the summer and we love the Mumford’s country-tinged pop.

The XX are the indie vote, but their hit ‘Islands’ was covered by all and sundry at this year’s Glastonbury festival, which should help propel them into the mainstream. The four South London youngsters met at school where they perfected their dreamy R&B-influenced sound.

New Look are teaming up with world-class institution London College of Fashion on an exciting footwear project which will see student-designed shoes available in our stores. We’re already big fans of this year’s BA fashion graduates, but this time round it’s all about the shoes.

A select panel of judges made up of fashion industry names including Giles Deacon, New Look Design Director Barbara Horspool, and footwear designer Jonathan Kelsey looked through the students’ designs. They picked finalists from the MA degree course, and the winning designs will be put into production next Spring. We can’t wait to get our greedy mitts on them!

LCF graduates include Jimmy Choo and LK Bennett so we’re really quite excited to see what this year’s students produce, below are some of the finalists’ designs to give you a flavour of what to expect, stay tuned to see who makes the final cut.

We’ve just about recovered from the weekend’s excesses at Glastonbury, safe to say the gorgeous weather helped things go well! It was a sun-drenched musical extravaganza with Kylie joining the Scissor Sisters in a set of extreme fabulosity, and who can forget Shakira?! Snoop Dogg, Muse, Faithless, MGMT, Laura Marling and Cribs made up some of the rest of the eclectic set list.

After the music (or maybe even before?!) fashion the next big draw of the festival and we had our eyes peeled to check out the most stylish celebs. Kate Moss was there sporting ripped fishnets, one of the surprise trends of the weekend, but it was Emma Watson who really played the wildcard with her cinched in corset top, so retro and an unsual choice for the Harry Potter star. Alexa Chung was another festy fave, her simple shirt and cutoffs combo definitely winning points. Sienna Miller has been off our radar of late but the loved up actress was in full force at Glasto and sporting her trademark boho style.

Only one more day till Clothes Show, we’re so excited! We gave away a stack of tickets on Facebook but if you weren’t one of the lucky winners, then don’t worry as we’ll be there to get the goss for you. The New Look team is packing up the office to go and grab a slice of the action. We’ll be blogging and tweeting from the thick of things, and by the sounds of it this is going to be a big ‘un!

With celebrities like George Lamb, Paloma Faith, and cult industry figures Hilary Alexander and Caryn Franklin this weekend is definitely going to be a treat for fashion fans. So stay tuned to the blog and keep up with our twitter updates for all the action!
